Background:
The school opened in 1969 to serve the village of Hanwood, south-west of Shrewsbury, and the surrounding hamlets. A local education authority nursery on site, a playgroup and out-of-school club all enhance the provision offered by the school. It is housed in a 'well maintained' building in grounds which are also 'well maintained and which provide 'excellent resources' for pupils. There is a 'very good' relationship with parents and the community, and this has a 'positive' effect on 'many aspects' of the work of the school. Parents are 'very supportive' and 'actively encouraged' to be involved with school life and work. A weekly newsletter keeps members of the school community 'well informed' about its work. The school offers 'many' extra-curricular opportunities which are run by both staff and parents, and include links with the local church. There are also many community and charity fund-raising events.
