Background:

Opened in Shropshire market town in 1920s; in addition to original main building, accommodation includes mobile classrooms added over the years, technology and art rooms opened in 1995, and four new classrooms; biology laboratory and information technology suite refurbished and upgraded in 2001. Extensive building programme completed in 2004 to add five new classrooms, canteen and cloakroom to main building; school to double in size by 2007; new capital project involves building classroom of future facility for delivery of specialist subjects (2006). All sports facilities contained within the school's grounds; also uses National Sports Centre at Lilleshall. Drama club run by sixth-formers. School values industrial links; organises one-week work-experience in Year 11 and work-experience abroad in Year 12. Strong house system; charity fund-raising regarded as integral part of school life. Relationships between home and school are strong; flourishing parent-teacher association. 'Academic results are excellent, but of equal importance is that strangers are made to feel welcome and able to participate in a thriving environment.'
